Sri Rama Navami in Prasanthi Nilayam…

Bhagawan Sathya Sai’s… Sai and Lord Sri Rama’s…Ram are tagged together in Prasanthi Nilayam forming the most powerful Mantra, a ‘buzzword’ SAIRAM among Sai fraternity….and to this hallowed precincts Sri Rama Navami has always been a celebration granting spiritual respite from summer’s merciless intensity.

Celebrating Sri Rama Navami, the staff of Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music presented a Carnatic and Hindustani classical session last evening here in Prasanthi Nilayam. The programme comprised of a sumptuous treat of Thyagaraja Kritis, beginning with Sri Raghavam Dasaratmajam;   and as interlude came some beautiful electrifying renditions of Hindustani classical that included Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram.

Earlier, the programme commenced with a brief talk by Sri KM Ganesh, one of the research scholars of the Institute, who chose to speak on the significance of Sri Rama principle.  Beginning with speaking on the great good fortune called “Interview” with Bhagawan, the speaker soon drifted into “Ramayana” mode talking about the ecstatic devotion exemplified by Hanuman. Though Hanuman was endowed with the body of a monkey which is known for its fickle nature, he exhibited steadfast devotion for Rama.

Sri Rama Navami in Prasanthi Nilayam…

Continuing on these lines, the speaker narrated one of the beautiful happenings at Trayee Brindavan in the bygone ‘golden’ days. Once Bhagawan was speaking to a few devotees in the Trayee Brindavan. Suddenly a horde of monkeys presented themselves before Bhagawan. Swami beckoned one of the devotees and asked him to bring groundnuts. When the devotee brought them to Bhagawan, everyone expected that there would be utter chaos, but what one saw was orderliness. The monkeys came slowly one by one walking with two legs just like humans and received the groundnuts from Bhagawan.

The talk went on with lucid narrations covering, how Rama Karya is important while engaged in chanting Rama Nama, the efficacy of “Sai Ram”, etc.

Sri Rama Navami in Prasanthi Nilayam…

Bhagawan’s Divine discourse from yesteryears followed next. Bhagawan said that the epic Ramayana is nothing but the Vedas descended on earth. The four Vedas – Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana represent Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata and Satrughna respectively. The four brothers set great ideals for humanity. One who delights is Rama. Every individual should delight us. What one should realise is the truth that essentially every being is Rama. In the Purusha Sukta it is said, SahasraSeershaPurushaSahasrakshaSahasraPad, which means God has thousands of heads and feet. In ancient times of Vedas, the population was only in thousands, but as times passed by, the population leaped from thousands to lakhs to crores. That is why God is described as Mukkoti Swarupa (embodiment of three crores of people). Later it became much more. So, every being is Rama.

The Ramayana sets an ideal how brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, mother, father should conduct themselves. There is no morality higher than what is depicted in the Ramayana, said Bhagawan. Sage Valmiki said, the story of Ramayana will exist as long as men and women and mountains and rivers exist in this world. What is the relationship between men and women and mountains and rivers? Men symbolise mountains and women, rivers. Bhagawan concluded His discourse by saying, “contemplate on the story of Ramayana and live in unity and joy” and sang the Bhajan, “Rama Kodanda Rama…”

Bhajans followed and ended with Mangala Arathi.

On the occasion of Ramanavami we present a discourse delivered by Bhagawan on 11 April 2003 at Brindavan. In this profound clip, Bhagawan explains what is the essence of Ramayana and why we must not look up to Lord Rama merely as an Avatar and worship Him. It is important to understand that each individual is Lord Rama and live life drawing inspiration from the idealism portrayed in the Ramayana.

Sri Rama Navami…

One Who delights is Ram and every individual should become Ram, echoed Bhagawan’s voice as an audio of an erstwhile Divine Discourse was played celebrating auspicious Sri Rama Navami this morning in Prasanthi Nilayam.

Earlier, the morning function began with 20 minute Vedic chanting followed by a 40 minute musical offering by the students from Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. The songs were in dedication to Lord Ram and Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai. The programme with interlaced songs and commentary had some of the famous numbers, namely, “Shudha Brahma Paratpara Rama…” and “Ramjee Ki Mahima Apaar…” and lasted 30 minutes.

Bhagawan’s Divine Discourse that followed enlivened the audience with golden memories of Bhagawan narrating Ramayana stories. Dwelling on the greater significance of Ramayana, Bhagawan stressed on the ideal life led by Lord Ram and brothers, highlighting the exemplary brotherly relationship among them. Concluding His Divine Discourse, commenting on the sweet story of Rama and grandeur of Ramayana, Bhagawan exhorted the audience to install Rama in their heart. Divine Discourse came to an end with Bhagawan singing “Rama Jayam Raghu Rama Jayam…”

Bhajans continued till 0930 hrs. when Mangala Arathi was offered. Prasadam was distributed at the end of the session.

Students from the Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music would be presenting a special music programme in the evening.

Indian Classical Music’s two prominent versions, Carnatic and Hindustani, a couple of instrumentals and a ghazal marked this evening’s musical offering by the students and staff from Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music on the auspicious occasion of Sri Rama Navami. Richly talented, these students whose inner musical instincts were nurtured at the hallowed portals of Prasanthi presented a scintillating musical display that lasted seventy minutes. The programme concluded with the bhajan in Bhagawan’s voice, “Rama Kodanda Rama….”. Mangala Arathi was offered at 1830 hrs.

Sri Rama Navami in Prasanthi Nilayam 24 Mar 2010

Posted at 12:30:00 IST on Mar 25, 2010

Rama Rajya is never a dream when The Lord Himself is amidst us…When He rules, where He rules, that becomes verily a Rama Rajya! Perhaps this was the indirect message one could decipher from the song that rang in the “House of the Lord” on the auspicious Sri Rama Navami evening. In an unprecedented move, Bhagawan blessed the four music accompanists of Sri Rituraj Maharaj, the master who conducted the Bhagavatha Saptaaham during the past seven days, to offer a bouquet of three songs at His Lotus Feet, marking an atypical Sri Rama Navami Celebrations in Prasanthi Nilayam, on the 24th March.

Jo Bhi Chahe Maanghlo…Merey Sai Sarkar Se…Aaaj Thak Koi Nahi Kaali Gaya Darbar Se… meaning, seek from Sai whatever you want, till today none has returned empty handed…was the first song suffused with meaning galore bringing in the greater glory of the Lord of present times. “Sai Sai Kehne Ki Aadat Si Ho Gayi Hey… Baba Ke charanoan Mein Rahne Ki Aadat Si Ho Gayi Hey…” meaning we are habituated in repeating Sai’s name and living at His Feet…” was the melody that captivated many a heart and soul on the beautiful evening when Lord was seated on stage. The group of four accompanists had two more songs to follow before the students took over to sing another two songs. The second song was, “Durbar Mein Sai Baba Ke Dukh… Dardh Mittane Jaathey Hey…” to wind up with the familiar tune on Shirdi Sai, “Sai Naatha Tere Hazaron Haath…”. Students started with the familiar soul stirring Sri Rama Stuti, “Sri Rama Chandra Kripalu Bhajaman…” followed by another bhajan on Lord Sri Ram.

Earlier, there was a long stint of Rama bhajans that continued till 11:40 in the morning, till Arathi was offered. In the evening, Bhagawan, upon coming out at 4:30, granted a 45 minutes interview to Sri Rituraj Maharaj and his musical troupe wherein He graciously blessed the troupe to sing in His Divine Presence. It should be highlighted that the music accompaniment during the Saptaaham brought in a unique charm helping to enliven the Bhagavatha rendition by filling the right mix at the right occasion invoking the right feeling, transporting the audience to immerse in the rendition.
