New Year 2007
Music and Brass Band Programme by Students of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning
January 01, 2007
Morning
Year 2006 has gone by… given a glitzy sent off all over the world while welcoming the New…Year 2007… and in Prasanthi Nilayam, the spiritual hub, the morning dawned with fresh hopes of basking in the glory of direct ‘sunlight’ of God walking on two feet. …and it was full, crowded to capacity to have a glimpse of the Lord on this auspicious beginning of the New Year. New Year's Day is the first day of the year, in the Gregorian calendar, falling exactly one week after the Christmas of the previous year.
..And to the prayers and hopes of thousands gathered to capacity, Bhagawan arrived at the Sai Kulwant Hall to the accompaniment of Veda chanting, just before 7:30 a.m., driving past the devoted crowd before occupying the special seat on the dais. There was a bouquet of devotional songs by the students, an apt offering for a wonderful fresh new year dawn, a gentle reminder of the greater glory of the Lord moving in human frame, cajoling, chastising, warning, guiding and engulfing one and all with unconditional love, that does not seek anything in return…an ideal selfless journey. This was followed by an impressive, enthralling band music by the Institute Brass Band. Bhagawan sat through the entire programme for almost ninety minutes. A visibly pleased Bhagawan blessed the students of the brass band with a group photo session. Prasadam was distributed and after a brief Bhajan session Bhagawan was offered Arathi before retiring to Yajur Mandiram.

Nostalgic memories of yester years were brought to the fore when the old students of the Institute reunited in large numbers to celebrate ‘alumni day’ in the Divine Presence of Bhagawan. More than 400 old students who are working in different parts of the world in various capacities have assembled at Prasanthi Nilayam to organise a show, an offering of gratitude to their Beloved Bhagawan, who have nurtured them, guided them and thus blessed them to become what they are today, before leaving the hallowed portals of the great institution. .... scroll down page to read more from New Year report

In the afternoon, Bhagawan was received by the Vedam group of the alumni with Poornakhumbham at the entrance of Yajur Mandiram, Bhagawan’s residence. Bhagawan, who arrived at the jam-packed hall led by the Vedam group, was visibly ‘moved’ by the dedication and devotion of his grateful students who relived the evergreen good old memories of their days at the Lotus Feet on this wonderful evening of the New Year. The programme commenced with a scintillating band display by the Alumni Brass Band. Coming from different parts of the world, these students reunited themselves to reproduce their skills that they have learnt at His Lotus Feet, once again… for Him…for His joy… They indeed made their Beloved Mother ‘happy’, sporting a dazzling display for the maiden evening of Year 2007.

…Dearest Lord! You are the very core of our self belief and self-world…Your Love has touched us and we have grown…Your Grace has filled us and our lives have forever changed… they said so, with hearts full of feelings and gratitude…singing their hearts out in chorus…a feeling, a bond, the real intensity of which is perhaps known only to The Mother and Her Children…and this very special bond of love made the evening a most memorable one…a right beginning for a New Year with fresh hopes and new resolutions…aiming high...

Earlier in the afternoon, in a brief introductory speech, Mr. Anil Gokak, Vice Chancellor of the Institute spoke on the significance of celebrating the New Year. Quoting the famous proverb, again and again like a sweet reframe comes the cycle of the years…Mr. Gokak spoke about the greater significance of celebrating the New Year in a most meaningful and purposeful manner… The message for the present time is that mankind has to rewrite its history…Bhagawan’s teachings have universal appeal aimed at uplifting and thus helping in regenerating humanity. World must unite as one, and unity comes when the underlying principle among all religions, races is recognised which comes from the proper understanding of all faiths…. This sanctity of the message has to be kept while celebrating the New Year in the Divine Presence, exhorted Mr. Gokak. Hailing the alumni for their service activities, Mr. Gokak urged the current students to follow their seniors in imbibing the spirit of education. Students are given the best of education under the Divine care and guidance of Bhagawan and the integral system of education that is imparted ensures a balanced development of the body, mind and the spirit which is the absolute need of the present time. Concluding his speech he urged the gathering to resolve to do their might towards rebuilding the society and thus contribute towards the betterment of humanity.

Indeed a wonderful beginning for a new year of greater hopes…of reaching greater heights…towards fulfilling life’s mission…learning from Him… with Him….a momentous journey to Him…from I to I.
