Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) Who in this world deserves our most sincere gratitude? Bhagawan clearly explains and reminds us today. The Vedas declare, “Mathru Devo Bhava, Pitru Devo Bhava”. Revere the mother and father as Divine. All of you must realize that your blood, food, head and money are gifts of your parents. First and foremost, offer your gratitude to your mother. Never forget your mother who gave you birth after allowing you to grow within herself for nine months, and provides you all care and comfort, unmindful of her own discomforts. The mother always has the child’s well-being uppermost in her mind on all that she says and does. You may be highly educated and your mother may be illiterate, still you should have the utmost regard and respect for her. Consider the teachings of your mother as dear as scriptures themselves. Bereft of character, worldly education cannot grant peace or help you lead a Divine Life. If you honour, love, respect and remain grateful to your parents, your children will honour you. - Baba |

In the cosmic context, Nature is the mirror, God is the viewer. All that is reflected in Nature is Divine. God alone exists everywhere. The object and the image appear because of the presence of the mirror. When there is no mirror, there is no image! God’s arithmetic is different from that of human beings. When a mirror is placed before you, you have three entities – you, the mirror and your image. When you take away one from three, according to normal arithmetic, there must be two entities, because ‘3 - 1 = 2’. However in the cosmic arithmetic, there is no ‘two’ because when the mirror is removed, only ‘you’ remain! This is the mystery relating to Nature and the wonders of the Lord. The glories of the Lord are multifarious and marvelous, beyond words.

The Himalayas or ‘Himachala’ forms the Northern boundary of India. ‘Hima’ means ice. It is white in colour and melts easily. Whiteness symbolizes purity. ‘Achala’ means that which is steady. Your heart should also be like the Himachala - pure, steady and which melts with compassion. God resides in each and every heart that is pure, steady and full of compassion. But today, many hearts have lost these noble qualities due to limitless desires. Life is a long journey and your desire is the luggage. The journey of your life will become enjoyable only when you reduce the luggage of desires. Less luggage, more comfort makes travel a pleasure! The Gita teaches that you should offer everything to God (“Sarva Karma, Bhagavadh Preethyartham”). You must perform every single action with the only goal to please God. This is the easiest and most effective way to be free from all difficulties and hardships.Do all your
tasks as offering to God; do not classify |

Human life is the combination of body, mind and soul. Body is the basis to attain wisdom. Therefore it should not be misused. You must purify your body and mind by undertaking sacred actions. Do not underestimate the potentialities of the human body. In fact the human body is the basis for attaining the goal of life. Work for the redemption of your life by chanting the Divine Name and undertaking sacred activities. You need not make any special effort to acquire the human values – they are latent within you, right from your birth. You have forgotten them, as you failed to practice them. Instead of giving tons of speeches, practice at least an ounce of what you have learnt. Humanity is on the decline only because people are not practicing human values. You are developing desires (asalu) forgetting ideals (adarsalu). The realisation of God is the goal and destiny of human life. - Baba |

That love will confer on you everything you need. There is no need for you to ask anything from God. Did Rama not give to Shabari what she needed without her asking? Did He not bless Jatayu with His Grace? Dasharatha had prayed for so long that his son should perform the last rites for him. But he did not get it, while the bird Jatayu got the privilege of a few drops of water from Rama before its death and attained liberation. Rama even performed his last rites. Mother Shabari was eagerly waiting for Lord Rama’s arrival with sweet fruits for several years. Her intense devotion to the Lord fetched its reward – God confers His Grace according to each one’s deservedness and it cannot be secured by agraha (force or power). The grace of God is like insurance. |

Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the easiest way to attain the Lord? Bhagawan lovingly explains us today. Let us not relate to God as a hidden, invisible entity. God doesn’t live in a place foreign to your dwelling. He is installed in you. He is with you, in you, above you, around you and below you. We have forgotten the easy way to reach God. All sufferings will vanish in no time if we sincerely call out to the Lord and sing His glory. The Lord’s Name is the only refuge to cross all the difficulties. There is nothing greater or mightier than His Name. The moment one chants His glory and sings His name, one attains bliss. Meditation and many rituals were followed in many ages, but in Kali age, chanting God’s Name (Namasmarana) is the only way to attain the Supreme. Through prayer and contemplation on God, you must try to control the evil qualities in you. - Baba |

Every being passes through the stages of birth, youth, old age and death. Childhood is spent in playing, youth in family life and old age in discharging responsibilities. One way or the other, there is mental suffering associated with each of these stages. Our attitude to life is akin to that of a tamarind. The tamarind is made up of three parts – the seed, the skin and the fruit. Similarly a human being has the gross body, the subtle body and the causal body. Suppose a raw, young tamarind is hit with a stone, the outer layer as well as the inner layer will be hurt. On the other hand, when a ripe tamarind is hit with a stone, only the outer skin breaks and the juice is available for consumption. The one with worldly associations is similar to a raw tamarind. Gradually, give up all desires, as the nature of desires is to multiply.

all life's activities, with no fear of fall. When the mind weds
worldly activity (pravrithi), the progeny is bondage; when it weds
spiritual renunciation (nivrithi), the progeny is freedom. Nivrithi
confers fearlessness, and grants strength and courage, for it is
desire that weakens man and makes one cringe. Detachment endows you
with self-respect, and the capacity to stand up to slander and
calumny. There are some who weep at the slightest sign of defeat or
disappointment. This is despicable behaviour. When the Lord is
installed in the altar of your heart why should you have fear or
sorrow? Do you not know He is there, guarding you and guiding you?
He is in all beings, always. Remember this fact wherever you are and
whatever you may do. If only you do not give up the recitation of
His Name you will succeed. Keep the name of the Lord always radiant on your tongue and mind, which will keep the antics of the mind under control. - Baba |

learn from the festival of Deepavali? What is the genuine way to
celebrate Deepavali? The festival of Deepavali is to express gratitude at the defeat of the Naraka (demonic) tendencies in man, which drags one down from Divinity. Naraka, whose death at the hands of Krishna is celebrated today, signifies hell. Narakaasura is the personification of all the traits of character that obstruct the upward impulses of man. The human being is a composite of man, beast and God, and in the inevitable struggle among the three for ascendency, you must ensure that God wins, suppressing the merely human and the lowly beast. The griha (home) where the Name of the Lord is not heard is a guha (cave), and nothing more. As you enter it, as you leave it and while you are in it, regularly perfume it, illumine it and purify it with the Name. Light it as a lamp at dusk and welcome it at dawn, as you welcome the Sun. That is the genuine Deepavali, the Festival of Lamps.

bring illumination to ourselves and to those around? Do not be elated by riches, status, authority, intelligence, etc., which you may have. Consider that they have been given to you on trust, so that you may benefit others. They are all signs of His Grace, opportunities of service, and symbols of responsibility. Never seek to exult over others' faults; deal sympathetically with the errors and mistakes of others. Seek the good in others; hear only good tidings about them; do not give ear to scandal. On the occasion of Deepavali, resolve to light the lamp of Namasmarana and place it at your doorstep, the lips. Feed it with the oil of devotion; let steadiness be the wick. Let the lamp illumine every minute of your life. The splendour of the Name will drive away darkness from outside you as well as inside. You will spread joy and peace among all who come near you.
Only by the light of the Divine lamp inside can you blossom as a worthwhile person. - Baba |

God is inscrutable. He cannot be realised in the outer objective world; He is in the very heart of every being. You extol God as omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent, but ignore His presence in you! Who can affirm that God is this or that? Who can affirm that God is not of this form or with this attribute? Each one can acquire from the vast expanse of the ocean only as much as can be contained in the vessel one carries to its shore. From that quantity, they can grasp but little of that immensity. Gemstones have to be sought deep underground; they do not float in mid-air. Seek God in the depths of yourself, not in the tantalising, kaleidoscopic Nature. The body is granted to you for this high purpose; but, you are now misusing it, like the person who cooked his daily food in the gem studded gold vase that came into his hands as an heirloom. Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the purpose of an Avatar? Is the Avatar here to alleviate
all our suffering? God is not a separate entity. Man is the image of God. Scriptures declare, God appears in human form (Daivam maanusha rupena). Though God has no separate form, Avatars descend from time to time to show how human lives can be divinised. I have often declared that God does not come down as Avatar to relieve individuals of their troubles and sorrow and to confer joy and happiness on them. Difficulties, troubles and worries come in the natural course as a consequence of your past actions. The Gita declares: Human beings are bound by merits and demerits (Karma) from previous lives (Karmaanubandheeni manushya loke). As is your action, so is the reaction. When you stand before a mirror and offer salutations, the salutation is reflected by the image. If you scowl at the mirror, the harshness is reflected back at you. (Divine Discourse, Sep 3, 1988) Sadhana is essential because the effects of Karma have to be removed by karma alone, as the thorn is removable only by another thorn. - Baba |

Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) Why is the observance of non-violence important? The observance of nonviolence has been described as the highest form of Dharma. All the violence in the world today is due to the fact that people do not lead righteous lives. It has been said that the body has been given essentially to pursue Dharma. Among the teachings of the Buddha to the world, the foremost was Ahimsa (not causing harm to anyone). Nonviolence is not merely refraining from inflicting injuries on others with one's limbs or weapons. Nonviolence has to be practised with Thrikarana Shuddhi (purity of thought, word and deed). There should be no ill-feelings, which is itself a form of violence. To cause harm to others through one’s body is Himsa (violence). No one should be harmed even by speech. The speech should be sweet, pleasing and wholesome. All actions should be helpful to others. (Divine Discourse, May 15, 1996) A heart saturated with love of God can never entertain thoughts of violence. – Baba |

being able to serve Him? Krishna told Arjuna, "You are My devotee and My friend." Neither Arjuna declared himself as a devotee nor Krishna remained content with just declaring Arjuna to be His devotee. Why did Krishna say: “You are My friend?” This declaration has a profound spiritual significance. This will be clear only when we practice the spiritual life. If merely the Lord were to call Arjuna, "My friend" his ego could get inflated and he could take undue liberties with Krishna. If He were to say, "My dear, you are My devotee," he could become extremely submissive and maybe even develop fear towards the Lord. Fear should not be instilled; nor should he be encouraged to take excessive liberties. Hence the terms devotee and friend, were used by Krishna. "You are My friend. You may be free with Me up to a point. You are My devotee. So observe certain restraints. Exercise control over yourself in your devotion." (Divine Discourse at Trayee Brindavan, July 1988) God alone is totally selfless as friend and benefactor. - Baba |

Fix your faith firmly in the Lord and not on the things of the world. When you have strong faith in the Lord, your discrimination will be perfect. You will be guided by your Conscience, which will always lead you properly. In vedantic parlance, the Conscience is called ‘Chit’. God is ‘Sat-Chit-Ananda’. Sat means Being, Chit means Awareness. When and where these two are combined, there is Bliss. This is the meaning of the divine name, BABA - Being + Awareness Bliss +Atma. All of you are aspirants of bliss. You must enjoy uninterrupted bliss. To attain that Ananda (Bliss), you must combine Sat (Being) and Chit (Awareness). Without Divinity, there is no bliss or joy. Hence always think of Him, Live in His presence. (My Dear Students, Vol 2, Ch 17, “Lessons from the Immortal Indian Epics”) Simple faith in the words of the wise is more profitable than years of study and discussion. - Baba |

Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the relationship between the Creator, His creation and the five elements?Bhagawan crisply explains to us today. The base for making a pot is clay. For making a pot, the potter is the cause and the pot is the effect. The pot may break, but the clay remains as it is. Out of a permanent substance, clay, the potter makes a pot. The fate of the pot does not affect the potter. The clay in the pot too has no impact on the potter. Extending the analogy, God is the changeless Creator, who creates innumerable objects in creation, which are subject to change in name and form. A pot cannot be made without the potter and the clay; both are necessary. Similarly the Creator is the instrumental cause of creation (Nimitta Karana). The human body may perish, like the pots, but the Creator and the Elements used for creation are imperishable. The human beings, during their lifetime, have a choice - to put their body to good use or bad use. (My Dear Students, Vol 3, Ch 16, “Sri Adi Shankaracharya: His Life”)

Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) Why is love the most potent tool and easiest means to understand
Divinity? Srishti, Stithi and Laya (creation, sustenance and dissolution) are the three forms of the Divine Will; you have to penetrate the inner meaning of Srishti, by means of Karma Yoga; you have to grasp the significance of Stithi, by means of Bhakthi Yoga and when you master the Jnana Yoga, you arrive at the experience of Laya, of manifoldness in the One. Bhakthi (devotion) makes you aware of the Lord who sustains and supports every being; it is love, which is eternal, true and blemishless. There is no one who is devoid of bhakthi; deep down in the core, everyone has the feeling of kinship with all creatures. It is this that makes a lonely person miserable, that makes everyone likeable to someone or other. If you have no love; you are like a lamp without the flame, blind and blinding. Love of the pure type is unmixed with hate, untampered with greed. (Divine Discourse, Oct 12, 1964)

Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) How do we constantly remind ourselves of the unity in the
multiplicity we constantly perceive? Clay is one substance, but from it, several products of different
shapes and names can be made. The same white milk is obtained from
cows of different colours living in different countries. Similarly
God is One, but dwells in innumerable bodies with different names
and forms. Take the example of gold. From the same metal, a variety
of different types of ornaments can be made. If you examine the
cosmic scene, you will find that out of the same basic substance a
variety of objects with different forms are produced. Out of a
single seed comes a tree with different branches, leaves, flowers
and fruits. Branches, leaves, flowers and fruits are unique and
distinct, vary in form, name and use; but all of them have come from
the one same seed, their source. This is the meaning of the Sanskrit
term, “Ekoham Bahushyam” implying “The One, who chose to become
Many.”

|
|||
Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What can we learn from the choice Arjuna made in his life? Prema (Love) is the seed, thanmayathwam or overpowering experience of merging, is the tree and inexhaustible bliss is the fruit. For this consummation, faith is essential. Look at Arjuna! When the choice was placed before him to decide which he should receive, the army of redoubtable heroes belonging to the Yadava clan or Krishna alone who is unarmed and refusing to fight, he asked only for Krishna! He knew; he believed; and he was saved. The same choice all have to make even now, when the Lord has appeared in His swaruupa (form) here. What does it profit if one accumulates money, gold and grain? The bliss, derived from the worship of the name and form which arouses spiritual joy, is far more desirable than these. Want of faith is the source of weakness in all fields. (Divine Discourse, Oct 12, 1964) To earn the grace of the divine, the easiest way is to surrender at the feet of the Lord. - Baba |

Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) Why should greed in any form be uprooted right away? Duryodhana symbolises one who has wicked thoughts. His minister was Dushasana. Dushasana represents one who promulgates bad laws. The combination of these two led to the growth of greed. On account of unrestricted growth of greed (lobha), Kauravas were totally destroyed. On another occasion Lord Krishna said, Arjuna means a person whose heart is pure and immaculate. Lord Krishna clarified to Arjuna in the battlefield, “Destiny is all powerful. Justice always wins. Selfishness will end in ruin. This is the law of the Universe (Yuga Dharma). He further explained to Arjuna that greed of Kauravas will cause them ruin.” Kauravas were not prepared to give their rightful share to the Pandavas. They wanted to keep everything to themselves, including what belongs to others. This selfishness is called greed. (My Dear Students, Vol 2, Ch 17, “Lessons from the Immortal Indian Epics") Fill your heart with the light of Love so that the evil qualities of hate, greed and conceit find no place therein. - Baba |

Just as every day you engage in exercise and consume tonics, calculating the intake of calories and vitamins, and paying meticulous attention to the nutritional value of the food, pay attention also to the intake of impressions into the mind - whether they debilitate or strengthen, whether they add to the power of resistance of the mind against the viruses of greed, envy, hatred, pride, malice, etc. Have a meal of good acts of service, divine thoughts, and drink the premarasa (juice of Love), so that they may be washed down, and digested well. Then you can be shining in mental health, happiness and wholesomeness. Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the minimum prescribed qualification to receive the Grace
of the Divine? Just as you prescribe minimum qualifications for any profession, the minimum qualification for grace is surrender of egoism, control over senses, and regulated food and recreation (ahaara and vihaara). You are made or marred by the company you keep. A bad person who falls into good company is able to shed his evil quickly and shine forth in virtue. A good person falling into evil company is overcome by the subtle influence and quickly slides down into evil. Reading that Krishna advises in the Gita the giving up of all individual responsibilities (Dharmas), an enthusiastic devotee gave up all obligations and limits; but he had to be told that one obligation still remained if the grace of God had to be secured: maam ekam sharanam vraja - "Surrender to Me only". When that surrender is complete and all acts, words and thoughts are dedicated to Him, along with all their consequences, then the Lord has promised that He will free you from sin and sorrow. Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the hallmark of real devotees? What is the source of all human values and what is the culmination? Bhagawan explains to us today. Those who struggle to uphold Truth are the real devotees. The essence of all scriptures (Vedas) lies in establishing this truth. Unfortunately, today people who recognize such an eternal truth are not to be found anywhere. You must never forsake Truth. When truth (Sathya) and righteousness (dharma) come together, there will be peace (Shanthi) and Love (Prema). In fact, Truth (Sathya) is the basis for all other human values, namely, Righteousness, Peace, Love, and Non-Violence (Dharma, Shanthi, Prema, and Ahimsa). Love (Prema) does not descend from outside. It emerges only from within, from the hearts of people. No human being can live without love. True and real life is one that is suffused with love. All virtues merge in love. Where there is love, there will be unity that permeates all barriers. Where there is love, people regardless of caste, culture, and country will unite naturally. Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) Why and how must we worship the Divine Mother? Bhagawan grants His Dasara benediction to us. Goddess Durga confers abundant energy on the individual. Mother Lakshmi bestows various kinds of wealth like money, food, gold, and vehicles for movement, so you lead a happy life in this world. Mother Saraswathi blesses you with education and intellect. Hence everyone must worship the three Divine Mothers. In all this worship, practicing right conduct (dharma) is of utmost importance. You should also make proper use of your intellect and undertake only good, righteous and sacrificial actions at all times for the benefit of the society and sanctify your lives. People keep distance among one another due to differences of opinion. In fact, you are not different from others. Today they may appear to be different, but tomorrow they may come close to you. Hence all should live like brothers and sisters with love and unity. ‘All are one; be alike to everyone.’ This is my special message on this holy occasion of Navarathri. Today's Sai Inspires from Prasanthi Nilayam. (pls share) What is the real significance in celebrating the festival of Dasara? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today. People experience pleasure and pain, sorrow and difficulties in
this world. When they experience pleasure, they say it is due to
their deservedness (prapti). When they undergo difficulties, they
attribute it to their destiny. Really speaking, both pleasure and
pain are the result of one's own actions (karma). As are the
feelings that drive action, so is the result (Yad bhavam tad bhavati).
Every human being in this world has to perform some kind of karma.
Hence let the actions (karma) performed by people be sacred. The
celebration of Dasara is meant to purify the actions performed by
the five senses of action and the five senses of perception (dasendriyas).
Devi, who is the personification of energy, is the driving force
behind all actions. Hence everyone must worship the Trinity of Durga
(goddess of energy), Lakshmi (goddess of all kinds of wealth), and
Saraswathi (goddess of education and intellect) during this festival
of Dasara.
Pray to God and draw from Him the magnet of His grace and offer to the world the power of His electrical energy. – Baba |

determined to destroy his enemies. But when he took his position in
the battlefield, he saw 'my teachers’, 'my grandfather’, 'my
kinsmen’, 'my cousins', etc. and he was moved so much by this sense
of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ that he discarded the bow and desired to return to
the forest and beg for the rest of his life, than fight the war. The
‘I’ that has really nothing to do with earthly possessions, blinded
him. Lord Krishna taught Bhagavad Gita and removed this delusion (moha).
The lesson for you is “Be unmoved by duality”. Let not defeat or
success affect your inner calm and inner joy. See yourself as your
Self unrelated to others or the objective world. When you know your
real Self, you are liberated! That is Moksha. Liberation (Moksha) is
not a five-star hotel or a deluxe resort. It is just the awareness
of your reality and the rejection of all contrary conceptions.
When the mind
and the intellect unite, humanness reaches a state of freedom, which
